Sound Engineering & Beat-Making
Two complete curricula — record and mix records that translate, or make beats that finish. Setup-first, grounded in the canon of working engineers and producers, and built on the stock plugins you already own. Two graduation tiers. One front door.
Where do you want to go?
Choose your path.
Two starting points. Pick the one that matches what you want to be doing six months from now — you can always cross-train later.
I want to be the
Engineer
You want to record, mix, and master records that translate everywhere — your own or other people's. Calibrated ears, working studio, real signal chains. Graduate as an FTM-Certified Audio Engineer.
START → Module 1.1 · Signal Path
Open the engineer track →I want to be the
Producer
You want to make beats — drums, bass, melody, sound design — finish them, and submit them to artists. Loop-based thinking, genre fluency, mix-ready exports. Graduate as an FTM-Certified Producer.
START → BM-1 · Foundations & Mindset

Two tracks. One progression.
Sound Engineering teaches you to capture, shape, and finalize audio. Beat-Making teaches you to compose with sound from scratch. Each track stands on its own — but the engineering chops you build in Sound Engineering make every beat you produce sound better.
Track A · Required for engineer cert
Sound Engineering

Logic Pro
Apple's flagship DAW. Stock plugins are studio-grade — Pultec emulations, vintage compressors, the works. Best for engineers and producers on Mac who want everything in one place.
Open Logic quickstart →GarageBand
Free with every Mac and iPhone. The fastest on-ramp to recording and beat-making — most working studios still use it for sketches. Great free stock plugin set.
Open GarageBand quickstart →Ableton Live
The producer's DAW. Session view + audio warping make it the standard for electronic, hip-hop, and modern beat-making. Cross-platform — Mac and Windows.

Two tracks. Two tiers each.
Tier 1 is a peer-reviewed Certificate of Completion — proof you finished the curriculum. Tier 2 is a mentor-signed FTM-Certified credential with optional teaching authorization. Free The Music is not an accredited institution; these are not equivalent to degrees from Berklee, Full Sail, or SAE Institute. They are honest, earnable, portfolio-grade credentials.
